Preparing for your Bikeathon
No matter how frequent or confident a cyclist you are, you should prepare for the London Bikeathon challenge in the same way – safety, equipment checks and training.
Safety
Safety is extremely important as the ride takes place on the open roads of the capital. Obeying the Highway Code and always wearing a helmet are simple steps to a safe day out!
"We have provided the first aid cover at the London Bikeathon for many years. The best advice we can offer is to make sure you are wearing a helmet. Such a simple piece of equipment has saved so many people from suffering a more serious injury." Clive James, St John Ambulance.
Equipment
Evans Cycles, the UK’s largest specialist cycle retailer is proud to once again support the London Bikeathon. If you don’t know where to begin when it comes to cycling, browse the equipment pages on the site or visit your local Evans Cycles store for some personal one-to-one advice.
Everyone who enters the London Bikeathon will receive an Evans leaflet with discounts on equipment and servicing - put them to good use and make sure your bike is running smoothly! They will also be there on the day to assist with safety checks and emergency bike repairs.
Training
No matter what distance you are cycling, everyone needs to prepare beforehand. Make sure you go out on your bike regularly before the event to build up your stamina. Ensure you stretch extensively before every ride and then try to increase the distance you are cycling week on week. A little extra effort goes a long way on the day!
Routes
The routes have now been finalised and you can view them and also upload them to your GPS! Further details are available on the routes page where downloadable copies will follow.
